It is with great sadness that we report that our dear colleague and Honorary President,   Jan  Trost, passed away on the 27th of February.

A message from our President, Chin-Chun Yi:

“With great sorrow, I am here to inform you that our honorary president,  Jan  Trost, passed away on February 27th, 2018.

Dr.  Trost  had a long involvement with the Committee on Family Research. He had served as Vice-President (1978-1982), President (1986-90-94), and Honorary President since then. We have lost a dear colleague and friend who was full of enthusiasm and innovations about family research.  Jan  had also inspired many younger family scholars in Europe and in other parts of the world.

On behalf of  RC06, the board will send our condolence to his family and friends.

Let’s remember  Jan  as our long-term partner who had strong commitment to CFR!”

The memorial service will be held on the 29th of March, 1:30pm, in Sweden. Our committee is sending flowers and will plan a celebration of  Jan’s life and contribution to  RC06  during the ISA World Congress in Toronto.

This link will provide some details including a copy of the death notice and other information (available in several languages). Please feel free to leave your messages and condolences through the link. Let us extend our deepest  sympathies to his family during this difficult time.

We will include a memoriam in our next newsletters as well as celebrate Jan’s life, achievements, and contributions at the XIX ISA World Congress. In the meantime, here is a link to Jan’s RC06 columns  published throughout the years in the Gazette (1999-2017) — this collection was kindly suggested by Irene JuozeliÅ«nienÄ— and prepared by Ria Smit, Rudy Seward, and Barbara Neves.
